The Processor for Real-Time Analysis

Stable and reliable data processing is the basis/foundation of the IfTA platform's success. A digital signal processor (DSP) processes high-resolution vibration data in real-time with the IfTA SignalMiner firmware using the so-called Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). This level in the IfTA system does not require an operating system and therefore guarantees 24/7 protection and operation. After a power failure, the DSP starts autonomously using the firmware and configuration last stored in its flash memory and resumes its work after a few seconds.

Real-Time Capability for High Plant Availability

The IfTA systems are based on a digital signal processor for signal analysis. This allows the deterministic runtime of commands necessary for protection systems with real-time capability in industrial environments. The capability for real-time processing is especially important in protection as it provides high availability of machines or plants. Optimized algorithms ensure short analysis times. Spectra with up to 6400 lines calculated live per channel are the most important example for this. The evaluation software IfTA TrendViewer can directly visualize data pre-calculated by the DSP.

The IfTA systems base on a signal processor for signal analysis - the IfTA DSP. By means of the firmware IfTA SignalMiner it provides real-time processing of input signals and output of analysis results. The capability for real-time is in particular required when protecting industrial plants, as it ensures fast processing of signals and high availability. For data storage and changes in configuration the DSP communicates via network with the IfTA DataHub on an IfTA panelPC, IfTA SlotPC or a workstation.

Highlights

  • Real-time data analysis and protection
  • Stand-alone operation - protection functions are fully functional even without PC since configuration and firmware are located on a flash storage and consequently the module starts without a PC
  • PC independent time stamping of data - by means of its own clock all acquired signals are signed with a precise time stamp. For tracking the DSP synchronizes its clock with the PC
  • 6 Status LEDs to display messages
  • The operating temperature of all modules is recorded in a SPU
  • Micro USB port for maintenance reasons (firmware upgrades und logging)

Application examples

  • Measurement of torsional vibrations in drive trains, gas turbines, steam turbines, power generators
  • A rotating shaft is equipped with 100 stripes around the circumference by means of zebratape. The LMM2 determines in a flash which stripe is in front of the sensor head. The analog output signal is further processed by the IfTA AT2 High Speed Timers and the IfTA DSP. In this way, not only the rotational speed and rotational velocity are determined, but also the torsional vibrations up to the 50th order. In that way, for example, a torsional vibration can be determined without having to equip the rotor with a rotary encoder.
