Time- and data-in­tens­ive in­vest­ig­a­tion of dy­nam­ic load lim­its

A shaker table is a tech­nic­al test­ing device used to in­vest­ig­ate the in­flu­ence of vi­bra­tions on com­pon­ents or ma­chines. As an ex­em­plary ex­ample, a shaker table test stand of the com­pany Ake-tech­no­lo­gies is shown on the left.

Shakers can be used to test the com­pon­ent be­ha­vi­or under dy­nam­ic loads in order to ob­tain in­form­a­tion about its fa­tigue strength lim­its and load lim­its. However, such a test pro­ced­ure takes a lot of time. A long-term meas­ure­ment with a suit­able meas­ur­ing and ana­lys­is sys­tem is es­sen­tial for de­term­in­ing the causes and the exact time of the oc­cur­rence of dam­age.

Chal­lenges on shaker tables

The real chal­lenge of long-term meas­ure­ments with shaker table test benches is the pro­cessing of the large amounts of data that occur dur­ing long-term meas­ure­ments. On the one hand, data should be easy to pro­cess for rapid de­tec­tion of fail­ures. On the other hand, the data set must have a high res­ol­u­tion for the ana­lys­is of vi­bra­tion modes and de­form­a­tions caused by the dy­nam­ic load. Triggered stor­age, i.e. event-based stor­age, is only re­com­men­ded if the trig­ger threshold is known. Other­wise, a com­prom­ise must be made between the amount of data and the res­ol­u­tion.
